The Team.

Right Proper Brewing Company started with a vision of being a small neighborhood brewpub with tasty yeast-focused beers, excellent value, unwavering hospitality with a touch of whimsy. The people that have joined our team since our inception share that vision. We love what we do and we don't take ourselves too seriously.  Dance parties while bartending or facepaint and polaroids are not out of the norm.  Don't forget the whimsy.

LEAH CHESTON

Co-Owner / Director of Operations

"I think I can, I think I can, I think I can."

She's a wine pro in a beer world: Leah embraces that. Most recently assistant GM and wine director at Ris, Leah brings management chops and wine wisdom to Right Proper. While at Wake Forest University, Leah had all intentions of pursuing a career in graphic design, but during a post-grad stint at Marshall Street Smokehouse & Wine Bar in NC decided to chuck that in favor of  design-and-food-and-wine. Her career led her to California, Florida, Alexandria VA -- and now Shaw. When not on the floor, she can be found with Gogo and Rocket in the office. It gets crowded in there.

John Snedden

Co-Owner

“I’ve been making barbeque for 24 years. It’s time for a beverage.”

John opened Rocklands Barbeque and Grilling Company in Glover Park, DC, in 1990.  He knows the satisfaction that comes from developing and growing a staff team. He also knows what it takes to make a passion into a business – a discipline he’s bringing to Right Proper. John, his wife Kim and their three children live in northwest DC, close enough to get to Right Proper for family supper.

kyle lucas

Assistant General Manager

Kyle comes to Right Proper after answering a Craigslist ad in 2013, after years of working in Maryland and his native Pittsburgh, PA.  He’s seen a lot of whimsy come in and out of the Brewpub in that time, and fondly remembers brews like BrotherFish, Comrade!, and Really Rosie.  When not working, he likes to re-watch Doctor Who episodes, wax poetic about mid-2000s Fat Wreck Chords releases, and yell loudly about Pittsburgh sports.

allison cortese

Events Director

“Teamwork makes the dream work!”

Allison’s love for food began at a young age, growing up around her family’s Italian restaurant in upstate NY.  With years of restaurant management experience under her belt, she has realized her passion to plan other people’s lives   (…or events).  After planning her own wedding, she is excited to plan your next special event!  And while she’s really more of a cocktail girl, she does enjoy a cold pint at the end of a long day.

BOBBY BUMP

Lead Brewer

"It's not the size of the brewhouse that matters, it's how you use it."

Bobby's passion for brewing started a long long time ago in a far away land called Seattle, using an electric stove top and a 5 gallon pot.  He quickly fell in love with the idea that he could make himself different styles of beer and soon began brewing professionally.  He has brewed for breweries of all sizes such as Schooner Exact, Allagash, and Bluejacket before finding his new little home away from home at Right Proper.  When he is not brewing or scrubbing floors, he enjoys long workouts at the gym with his wife, Cristina, or taking his boxer dog, Brewski, to nearby trails in DC.

MARIA MILLER

Social Enabler / Resident Stylist

"I just wanted to be a professional enabler..."

As a DMV native Maria has spent some time getting to know the beverage industry both leisurely and professionally.  She loves to make sure everyone around her is having the best time imaginable and will do anything it takes to achieve it. In addition to bartending, Maria is the voice behind all the social media at Right Proper and keeps us all looking pretty trendy.
