The 5-barrel brewing system at the Shaw Brewpub is the perfect size to experiment with new beer recipes, thus our brewpub offerings change almost daily. Some are made in a more classic style while others are open-fermented with wild yeasts and housed in our barrel room. Regardless of how they're made, you can always see where they are made, just on the other side of the bar.

ORNETTE | Grisette | 3.7% abv | 16oz Pint
Light, Crisp, Complex. Our rustic farmhouse wheat ale is open fermented with a mix of yeasts from some of our favorite traditional farmhouse breweries. Dry and sprite with flavors of pepper, hay, and stone fruit. Named after late visionary jazz player Ornette Coleman.
DIAMONDS, FUR COAT, CHAMPAGNE | Aromatized Berliner Weisse | 3.8% abv | 12oz Stem
Zesty, Floral, Tart. This tart wheat ale is fermented with lactobacillus and finished with our house mixed-culture of wild yeasts. Bitterness, alcohol and residual sugar are very low allowing the late-boil addition of elderflowers and fresh grapefruit peel, and dry-hopping with Hallertau Blanc to shine through. The recipe was written to mimic some of the floral and citrus character of a brut Champagne.
CORN RIGS AND BARLEY RIGS| Dry Hopped Berliner Weisse | 3.8% abv | 12oz Stem
Tart, Fruity, Refreshing. This beer is open fermented with lactobacillus and brewed with a lot of corn and some oats and then dry hopped with Citra and Mosaic. Expect tartness, super bright citrus, stone fruit & tropical fruit bowl.
BIRD OF PASSAGE | American Wild Ale | 4.0% abv | 12oz Stem
Apricot, Tart, Dry. This golden tart ale was brewed using flaked rye and flaked oats then inoculated with our house strain of lactobacillus before being dry hopped with Azacca hops. Look for an orange tangy sensation on the palate with strong peach notes and passion fruit in the nose
VINTAGE SKY-LIT DRAWL (AGED 5 MONTHS) | Brett Saison w/ Stonefruit | 5.% abv | 8oz Snifter
Peaches, Citrus, Crisp. This saison was brewed late summer 2016 with flaked oats and flaked rye then finished with an abundance of locally harvested peaches and nectarines before being open fermented with our house mixed culture of brettanomyces and lactobacillus. Pleasant peach, tangerine, and citrus flavors and aromas intermingle well with the yeast expression from fermentation.

ASTRAL WEEKS | Farmhouse Pale Ale | 4.4% abv | 13.5oz Tulip
Dried Tropical Fruit, Grassy, Refreshing. Brewed and dry-hopped with Galaxy and Equinox. Open fermented with brettanomyces and lactobacillus. Venture into otherworldly sticky hops, bright acidity and slipstreaming yeast. Brewed at our Brookland Production facility.
NEW WEIRD AMERICA | Brett Pale Ale | 5.0% abv | 13.5oz Tulip
Juicy, Dry, Quenching. A take on the modern day version of a pale ale brewed with wheat and corn that features an abundance of the American grown hops: Mosaic, Citra, and Amarillo. We put our twist on it by fermenting it in our open fermenter with our house mixed-culture of wild yeasts. A touch of quenching acidity brightens the hop juiciness without overwhelming the palate.

THE DUKE | Strong Golden Ale | 6.9% abv | 13.5oz Tulip
Cereal, Fruity, Smooth. When 624 T Street was Frank Holiday’s Pool Hall, young Duke Ellington would sneak out of his mother’s house in Shaw and play jazz piano here. This is our sophisticated ode to the indomitable Duke. Dry and effervescent with yeast derived fruit and spice.

SHAWBECKER | Schwarzbier | 4.6% abv | 16oz Pint
Crisp, Nutty, Cocoa. Dark German lager that balances roasted yet smooth malt flavors and a moderate bitterness. Brewed with Munich and an assortment of roasted malts and then modestly hopped with Hallertauer Mittelfrueh. For added enjoyment of this beer and a free smile, pronounce it to your server in a thick German accent,”shvahrts-beer.”
HÄXAN | Robust Porter | 5.5% abv | 13.5oz Tulip
Roasty, Chocolate, Full Bodied. Named after the silent era Scandinavian documentary on witchcraft, Häxan is brewed with an assortment of roasted malts, smoked malts, and oats. Full bodied with notes of coffee and chocolate. Brewed at our Brookland production house.
